Monterey Market and Berkeley Bowl are the two major
vegetable markets in Berkeley, presenting a vast array of food from local
growers, outside the supermarket distribution system.
Monterey Market seems back on track now after a period
when it seemed to be slipping. It is not as crowded now, either at the check out
counter or the small parking lot, as it was at its peak a number of years ago.
