Kermit Lynch Wine Merchant
Kermit Lynch's wine firm is almost unique. Forbes
Magazine, in writing of his enterprise a while back, found only two
other establishments to include in the article. This is a Gourmet Ghetto
success story which parallels that of Alice Waters and Chez Panisse, for
which he has been a wine supplier from the beginning.
What Kermit has always done is simple in
principle, but arduous in execution. He goes to the smaller vineyards of
France, with occasional excursions to Italy, in search of truly fine
wines off the beaten path.
To succeed in this endeavor requires a
perfectionist dedication, and an impeccable palate, both of which Kermit
has amply demonstrated through the years.
Most of his wines today are rather high in
price by our standards. The buyer seeking low-priced bargains used to
find many here, but no longer. This baton has passed to Oddlots
(see below).
Kermit has a free monthly mailer. In addition
to telling of recent arrivals and Kermit's latest enthusiasms, this
letter can provide a wine education over time. Also, don't
overlook Kermit's book, Adventures on the Wine Route, a
rightly-acclaimed, educational, and entertaining narrative, available in
the store.
The staff is highly knowledgeable about all the
wines in the store.
