     We are constantly surprised that so many of our friends restrict their wines to California varieties. The California vineyards produce many interesting items, but they are only part of the world's offerings.
     French wines alone offer many taste sensations outside the California experience. In addition Spain, Italy, Germany, Alsace, Argentina, Chile, Australia, and other countries produce interesting wines.
     A number of these are less expensive than California wines of equivalent quality. Imported wines seem generally undervalued in today's market.

Kermit Lynch Wine Merchant
Kermit Lynch's wine firm is almost unique. Forbes Magazine, in writing of his enterprise a while back, found only two other establishments to include in the article. This is a Gourmet Ghetto success story which parallels that of Alice Waters and Chez Panisse, for which he has been a wine supplier from the beginning . . .

Oddlots Wine Shop
Oddlots is not as well known as Kermit Lynch, but the shop is similar, although with lower prices. Proprietor Morgan Miller, like Lynch, specializes in imported wines not available most other places. This is not surprising, as he was with Kermit in the early days . . .

Weimax Wines and Spirits, Burlingame
Viewer C. Falletto brought this shop to our attention in March. He wrote:
I live in The City and sometimes drive across the bridge to a number of the East Bay places you suggest for wines and foods. I also wanted to point out my favorite wine place in the Bay Area....it's down on the Peninsula, in Burlingame . . .

Solano Cellars
This is a recent discovery for us. Don't know where we've been all these years. They have a separate budget section. On our first visit, April 2000, we found three outstanding bargains well under ten dollars . . .
